Brian Lara’s comments after last match at Queen’s Park

August 11, 2014

It’s great, the things you can dig up when you are going through old emails!

Listen to an audio clip from 2006 with Brian Lara talking at the post-match press conference at Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad. Apart from Lara, you might also recognize a familiar voice!

Also, here is a video of a big 6 he hit in that match.

Limacol CPL final round – very interesting!

August 9, 2014

My my my. First, the St Lucia Zouks beat the defending champions Jamaica Tallawahs and now the TT Red Steel are imploding against Antigua Hawksbill while batting first in St Kitts at Warner Park. It seems they may not even bat out the 20 overs in this Limacol CPL final set of matches before the semis.

Hmmmmm……I have heard the commentators say that they are using a different wicket for the games today. Could it be that it was deliberately set so that it could upset the apple cart of a few top teams? Of course, it would be great for the Hawksbills to win their first match and in so doing, get Jamaica back to the top of the table. But it wouldn’t be so nice if the track makes the top teams not perform well during the semis!

Well, Antigua is still to bat so lemme not speak too soon!

The Guyana Amazon Warriors survived a scare and narrowly beat the Antigua Hawksbill in the opening match of the Limacol Caribbean Premier League T20 competition at the Grenada National Stadium.

After the post match ceremony which you see on television, the media who are interested dash to the post match press conference. Today, we were told to go right up to the table and ask our questions of, first, Marlon Samuels of Antigua along with his coach Tim Nielsen, then Denesh Ramdin of Guyana who was accompanied by Coach Roger Harper.

Here are some video snippets, first of Marlon and Coach Tim, which I guarantee you won’t see anywhere else…… Read more…

Preparing for Interviews

July 10, 2014

Over the 11 years that I have been interviewing cricketers, I have used several approaches to prepare for one-on-one interviews.

For persons like Lawrence Rowe, I spent MANY days preparing. This was because I knew nothing about him, other than what was said about him in the media for going to South Africa. When he was playing, I didn’t used to like cricket. Hated it in fact. (That’s another story). So I approached the research like I was doing a project for my Masters.

Around that time, I decided I would start watching the U-19 cricketers so that when they got to the West Indies level, I knew something about them and it wouldn’t take so much time. Xavier Marshall was one such cricketer and when he got to the West Indies team, albeit that his was a short tenure, I felt I knew enough about his history not to have to do so much research.

But sometimes, there is literally no time to prepare. Like yesterday…… Read more…

Jerome Taylor happy to be back!

June 9, 2014

Article from yesterday’s cricket play. Jerome created quite a stir when he was plucked from the Shell Cricket Academy to play for the West Indies as a teenager. After a brilliant start to his career, he ‘broke down’ and had a recurring back injury for years.

I recall when I first saw him bowl, it reminded me of Michael Holding. He was very tidy and on target with his balls. Pity about the back as he had great promise.

But now he’s back and West Indies fans are happy. We wish him well.
